Sotheby's, New York. This subject of the reclining figure, initially inspired by the example of Mexican sculpture in his earlier carvings, was one of Moore's chief preoccupations throughout his long career. It relates to his Draped reclining Figure of 1952-53, which was commissioned for the third-floor garden terrace of the Time-Life building on a corner site in Bond Street, London. It carried a pre-sale estimate of US $ 2,5- 3 million. In addition, Sotheby's sold his “Three Standing Figures”, a bronze green patina 74 cm high sculpture for US $ 530,500 (Inclusive of buyer premium) against a pre-sale estimate of US $ 400,000 to 600,000 while “Mother with Child on Lap”, a 81.3 cm high  light brown patina bronze numbered 2/9 and cast in 1985, fetched $ 838,500 against a pre-sale estimate of US $ 500,000 to 700,000.
