Le Roux-Morel group, Drouot-Paris. An incredible price for such a small sculpture designed by Gonzales who was the first to produce cast iron works. On his arrival in Paris in 1900 he befriended Max Jacob and worked with Picasso. He invented a new language during the 1930's trying to juggle with space. Another sculpture of similar size titled «Maternité au Rectangle» sold for 6 200 000 FF (almost $ 1 million) (Inclusive of buyer premium) while some of his drawings went between 165 000 and 205 000 FF. Gonzales remained almost unknown during many years until a major sale of his works collected by Hans Hartung propelled him to glory a few months ago in London. These two sculptures sold in Paris came from the Gildas Fardel collection and had been bought from Roberta Gonzales, daughter of Julio and wife of Hans Hartung.
