Lille, Northern France, Etude Mercier. Dirck van Delen worked in Rome in 1623 and in Antwerp around 1668. He notably painted architectural paintings with figures usually painted by Dirck Hals, Jacob Duck, Peter Codde or Palamedesz. His style was reminiscent of that of Hendrick Van Steenwyck. This painting only carried a top pre-sale estimate of $ 70,000 but its fresh colouring, luminous effects and quality were enough to push the bidding to such price-level.
