Etude Anaf, Lyons, Central France. The bid recorded on this monumental sculpture was a world record for Cesar. This work, produced by the Bocquel foundry in 1992 had been acquired by the chairman of a company and was placed in front of the firm's headquarters in the renovated part of the Opera area in Lyons. The chairman of the company first wanted to offer the sculpture to the town but his offer was turned down. A few months afterwards the company went bankrupt and the statue was again offered to the town this time for 1 million FF (US $ 175, 450) but in vain. Being due to be auctioned, the sculpture suddenly arose the interest of the Town-council which had to decide whether it was worth buying it but at two million francs. The town however could not raise the money and the sculpture was finally auctioned causing some anger among the inhabitants of Lyons. The buyer was a French collector.
