Sotheby's New York. This work, of which at least two other versions are known, carried an estimate of between US $ 400,000 and 600,000. It was painted circa 1733 when the artist began to paint his first genre scenes. Still lifes of kitchen tables using rustic objects and food were recurrent subjects of Chardin during the 1730's. In this arrangement a soft light plays with shadows and warm tones of brown, red and yellow.
