Galerie Koller, Zurich. A fine bid for Agasse who belonged to a rich family of Scottish origins. He was chiefly known as a painter of animals after studying painting in Paris with Jacques Louis David in 1787. He then worked with Horace Vernet, a horse painter but facing some dire financial problems in 1798 he accepted the offer of a rich Englishman to go to London where he only met success after 1820.
