Nice, Southern France, Etude Palloc. This work, which only carried a pre-sale estimate of 240 000 FF, finally went to a French collector battling against some Paris dealers. Abraham Govaerts, whose father was selling paintings, worked in Antwerp where he became a master in 1607. He notably worked with the Francken family and had F. Snyders as a pupil. He also worked under the influence of van Coninxloo and Jos de Momper before adopting a touch closer to that of Jan Brueghel.
