Sotheby's London. A strong bid for this painting, which carried a top pre-sale estimate of £ 350,000. Since Mignon's career lasted barely fifteen years before his early death, and none of his paintings are dated, it has been difficult to attempt a chronology of his work. Although he trained under Jacob Marrell in Frankfurt, his style was formed in Utrecht under the influence of Jan Davidsz de Heem.
