Paris-Drouot, A strong bid for this carpet which had a pre-sale estimate of 700,000 FF. The Savonnerie manufacture, founded in 1604 and which was named after a soap-works of Chaillot after its transfer there in 1627, was famous throughout the 18th Century. The main problem regarding this carpet was its size. Apparently, the buyer had enough room for it in his home.
