Wood Sculptures
Paris-Drouot. Finely executed, this sculpture had an 80 000 FF (US $ 16 000) estimate linked to a shy attribution to Petel, one of the greatest, if not the greatest, German sculptors of the 17 th Century. Petel was the first artist in Germany to give up manierism and to embark on producing baroque works which are among the splendors of German art. This masterpiece was at the centre of a furious bidding battle between German buyers.
