Sotheby's, New York. A fine bid for this painter who is usually rated around $ 10,000 for 65 x 50 formats. A pupil of Dubouloz in Paris, Henri de Montpezat became a highly respected portraitist and animal painter. He specialized in refined hunting scenes, portraying elegantly appointed equestrians. Working under the influence of Alfred de Dreux he frequently exhibited at the Paris Salons and also gained the patronage of the Royal Dutch family after travelling to Holland in 1848.
