Stolen in France during World War I 93 years ago, a 1876 painting titled "Une Fille de Pêcheur" (A Fisherman's daughter) by Jules Breton was handed over on October 13, 2011 by the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to the French ambassador in Washington.
Seized in 1918 by German troops from a museum in Douai the painting by Breton, a realist painter, was sent with other artworks to Belgium but remained unaccounted for when the Belgian government returned the works to France in 1919.
French authorities informed Interpol Washington last year that "A Fisherman's Daughter" , valued at about 150,000 USD had been imported by a New York art gallery.
