oil, 47x47 cm | Michel Fagebaume was born in Paris into a Jewish family originating from Poland. He spent his childhood before and after the Second World War in a typical Slave wholehearted atmosphere.
Michel Fagebaume followed the advice of Isaac Dobrinsky, one of the masters of the Jewish school of Paris, and studied painting at a young age. In 1974, he decided to burn all his production showing deep dissatisfaction about his early works. From then on, he refused to sell his newly produced works and only painted seven works a year.
In 1984, Michel Fagebaume met «Madith» who was to become his muse and of whom he painted many nude portraits.
Michel Fagebaume fiddles with colours, which appear on the canvas in a kind of misty haze impasting his feelings into his works, which are ceaselessly remodelled. Last but not least, he always works like a mad masochist with no restraint trying to achieve the best results.
Fagebaume sees himself as a true artist and is certainly among the last witnesses of the hazy period of the Shtetls. Each of his painting has more than a simple meaning. In fact, it is always a piece of despair that he unveils.
