BATTLE FOR THE TAKE-OVER OF TOP PARIS AUCTION GROUPS

e-Bay, Christie's and the LVMH group are currently engaged in a fierce underground battle to gain control of the two biggest auction groups in Paris, well-informed sources reported on February 11th 2000.

The main targets of the offensive now being carried out in Paris are the Tajan and PIASA GROUPS.

The Tajan group, which recorded a US $ 73,8 million turnover in 1999, is part of a grouping formed by Butterfield & Butterfield present in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago, Swann Galleries from New York, Dorotheum from Vienna, Lawsons Galleries from Sydney, the Galerie Koller from Zurich and Geneva, Finarte, active in Milan, Rome and Madrid, Bukowskis from Stockholm and Lampertz from Koln. Such grouping recorded a $ 378,8 million turnover last year and has a list of 500,000 potential buyers.
