Sotheby's, New York. This bid neared the low pre-sale estimate of $ 100,000. De Dreux was greatly influenced by Delacroix and Géricault as well as by J.F Herring Sr. From the start of his career he was captivated by the movement and strength of the horse, specializing in horse portraits and riding subjects almost to the exclusion of anything else. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1831 and the many prizes he received during his illustrious career indicate the enormous popularity of his work.
