St John, St Francis, St Claire, Tapestry from Basel , third quarter of the 15th Century
Etude Tajan, Drouot-Paris. A record price for a tapestry sold in France. Tapestries produced in Basel are quite rare on the market and the buyer was the Historical Museum of Basel itself. Such tapestries were made on special orders during the 15th Century and this one was probably made for an Abbey. It was in a remarkable condition with only a few minor restorations.
