Vassy Group, Drouot-Paris. A world record price for a still life by Beert who was only rediscovered during the 1930's. His name appeared in the list of the Saint Luke Corporation in Antwerp in 1596 as apprentice to a certain Andreis van Brassero. Beert became a master in 1602 and was the first painter to promote the still life genre in the Flanders. He was surely the greatest painter of flowers at the turn of the 17th Century. This work combined all the various paintings he used to produce and was of exquisite quality. Eric Turquin, the expert for this sale, prudently estimated this work between 2 and 3 million FF.
