This bust is a portrait of Alice Géry, the future wife of André Derain, who at the time was married to Maurice Princet. There is also a profile portrait of Alice which Picasso dedicated to her and dated 1905. This work carried a pre-sale estimate of US $ 60,000 to 80,000. The previous day Sotheby's sold Picasso's Tête de Femme a 18.1 cm high dark brown patina bronze with the foundry mark C. Valsuani conceived in 1908 and cast in 1958 in an edition of six for US $ 134,500 (Inclusive of buyer premium) against a US $ 80,000 to 120,000 pre-sale estimate. |
