circa 1891, dry point and aquatint in colour, 4th and last state, of a series of 25 proofs with Cassatt's monogram “MC” stamped
Poitiers, France, Segeron group. A blasting bid for this dry-point by Mary Cassatt who settled in France in 1874. She was a noted painter of women and children and devoted much of her time to engraving from 1890. Much influenced by Japanese engravers she produced marvellous prints in colour between 1890 and 1891 with the help of M. Leroy, a Parisian printer whose name appears on that proof.
