Mayenne, western France. Such wall clock went well beyond the 300,000 francs estimate despite some minor case alterations. The fact that it was a musical piece was probably the reason for such a bid. Bracket clocks, known as «cartels» in France, were made in wood covered with tortoiseshell or bronze. These quite decorative pieces were much popular during the 18th Century.
