Including Old Master paintings,
sculpture and works of art,masterpieces offered for sale at Sotheby's on July 5
and 6,2016 sold for a combined 31,831,191 GBP
with auction records for works by Marten van Cleve the Elder, Niccolo di der
Sozzo, Pacino di Bonaguida, Barthel Beham, Jean-Etienne Liotard, Louis-Gabriel
Blanchet, Dominic Serres, Peter Lely and Jan Brueghel the Elder.
Unseen for almost 250 years on the
market, Jean-Etienne Liotard's "A Dutch girl at Breakfast" sold for
4,405,000 GBP,However at its low estimate, while Jan
Brueghel the Elder still life of flowers in a stoneware vase, a work restituted
to The Rothschild family after it hang in
the National Gallery in Prague, went for
3,845,000 GBP.
Not seen on public display since 1823, a
large oil sketch by Peter-Paul Rubens titled "the Chariot of Apollo"
was hammered down at 1,145,000 GBP,
"The Miracle of the Tomb of Saint Proculus" by Pacino di Bonaguida
went for 425,000 GBP, the superb Orpheus Cup from
the collection of Baron Lionel de Rothschild (1808-1879) made in Augsburg around 1600 culminated at
1,061,000 GBP, an ormolu and enamel musical automaton jardiniere table clock Probably made in the Chinese workshops
of Guangzhou with a movement signed by the London clockmaker, Robert Philp, circa 1785, made £1,025,000 against a
high estimate of 600,000 and a chalk drawing on paper showing the self-portrait by Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680) Jumped to
a record 869,000 GBP while a wood bust Bust of a Nobleman, possibly
Ludwig V., Elector Palatine, Southern German, probably Augsburg, circa
1520-1535, sold for 629,000 GBP.
