THE 2008 FIAC AT THE GRAND PALAIS IN PARIS ON OCTOBER 23

The French international contemporary art fair (FIAC) will open on october 23, 2008 at the Grand Palais and the Louvre Cour Carrée amidst fears of a fall of activity on the art market following the American financial crisis that had collateral effects on several European countries.
The contemporary art market has been affected by a slow-down during the past nine months resulting in an increase of unsold lots in most auction sales throughout the world.
The art market was however relatively spared by the tremors which shook financial places in the U.S, Europe and Asia but the lack of fresh money could well cause a recession before the end of 2008.
The FIAC will surely serve as a test for the market to alleviate fears of a major slow-down. Observers said it would be a miracle if this edition managed to break even with last year's results.
