Comment: Liberté Nuti, Director and head of sale:“The auction produced the highest ever selling rates for this category
at Christie's in London with 92% of lots finding buyers. The total of nearly
£7 million exceeded the pre-sale estimate of £4.3 million to £6.4 million and
the top lot, Picasso's Buste d'homme à
la pipe, realised the highest ever price for a work sold in a works on
paper sale. There was strong demand from international collectors throughout
with fierce competition for works by late Picasso in particular and,
mirroring the success of yesterday's evening auction, 8 of the top 10 lots
exceed their pre-sale expectations.”
