SOTHEBY'S JUNE 26-27 SALES OF CONTEMPORARY TOTAL 83 MILLION GBP

Sotheby's June 26-27 2012 sales of contemporary art
totaled 83 million GBP with the Evening
auction achieving £69,307,050 with 21 works selling for over £1 million.
Jean-Michel Basquiat's "Warrior" led the Evening Auction with a strong
hammer price of £5.6 million while Jean Dubuffet “Chérubin Ouistiti” went for
993,250 GBP. Alexander Calder's
“Unitled” mobile fetched 1,497,250 GBP, Piero Manzoni's “Achrome” sold for
2,617,250 GBP, Louise Bourgeois' “Untitled" (The Wedges)” was hammered at
1,105,250 GBP, Martin Kippenberger's “Terrorsim, Touristin” found a buyer for
1,015,650 GBP and Glenn Brown's “The Tragic conversion of Salvador Dali (After
John Martin)” more than doubled its low estimate to fetch 5,193,250 GBP.
Other strong results included
David Hockney's “Swimming pool” at 2,505,250 GBP, Roy Lichtenstein's
“Girl in a mirror” at 2, 393,250 GBP,
Alexander Calder's mobile “ La Feuille Jaune” at 1,329,250 GBP, Cy
Twombly's “Untitled (The Empire of Flora)” at 2,393,250 GBP, Christopher Wool's
“Untitled P 285” at 881,250 GBP and Damien Hirst's “Jolly” at 601,250 GBP.
The Day Auction held on June 27 was marked by Guenther Uecker's “Spirale”
sold at 343,250 GBP, On Kawara's “Mar 17, 1972” at 181,250 GBP, Maria Elena da
Silva's “Untitled” at 241,250 GBP, Gerhard Richter's “Moor” at 713,250 GBP,
Albert Oehlen's “Untitled “ at 205,250 GBP, David Hockney's “Study of a
poster for the 1972 Olympic Games” at
169,250 GBP, Sir Howard Hodgkin's “Deep Blue Sea” at 265,250 GBP, Miguel
Barcelo's “Potirons avec bouquet de fleurs N°2 “ at 397,250 GBP, Andy Warhol's
