NEW RECORD PRICE FOR EDWARD HOPPER

An oil on canvas titled  "East Wind Over Weehawken" by Edward Hopper sold for 40.5 million USD against a high pre-sale estimate of 28 million at a Christie's sale held  on December 5, 2013  in New York.

The previous record for the painter stood at 26.9 million USD, for the work  "Hotel Window" painted in 1934. Sold on behalf of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts,  “East Wind Over Weehawken"  depicts a urban landscape of the city of New Jersey, on Hudson River.
