A SUCCESSFUL FRIEZE IN LONDON
17 October 2014
Catégorie : MARKET

The 12th edition of Frieze London due to end on October 19, 2014 was rather a success according to participants who boasted about their sales, such as the White Cube Gallery which sold Damien Hirst's fish in formaldehyde diptych titled "Because I Can't have you I Want You" (1993) for 4 million GBP, a price rather not expected at auction.

White Cube reportedly sold an installation of microphones by David Hammons titled "Which Mike Would You Like to Be Like?" (2001) for some 3 million GBP while Michael Werner gallery parted with an untitled gouache on paper from 2003 by Sigmar Polke for 600,000 GBP.

All the works of New York artist Kaws presented by Galerie Perrottin were sold between 75,000 GBP and 200,000 while those by Kim Fisher, Adam Mc Ewen, Enrico David, Dan Vô, Andreas Eriksson, George Condo, Andreas Gursky, Louise Lawler or Sterling Ruby seduced scores of buyers eager to buy pieces likely to be tempting.

While works by Paul McCarthy, Eva Hesse, Tracey Emin or Allan Kaprow fared well,Frieze enabled lesser-known artists to be also at their advantage such as Anna Maria Maiolino, Ida Applebroog,Gabriele de Santis, Mickalene Thomas, Adriana Varejão, Teresita Fernández, Svenia Deininger, Xiang Jing. Diana Al-Hadid or Pier Paolo Calzolari, and Svenja Deininger.
