Art market prices have evolved tremendously over the past thirty years as a survey conducted by artcult tends to suggest. Price increases have however been more significant in certain sectors such as paintings, drawings, furniture, Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass works, ceramics and porcelains, Chinese works of art, tapestries and carpets. Regarding sales results recorded in 1968 and 1969, there has been overall an average ten-fold increase after three decades. After analysing auction results recorded thirty years ago we have just calculated the rough increase factor (for example: 10x) without taking account of inflation over that period, which totalled about 350% (20% yearly during the 1970s, 10% yearly during the 1980s and 5% yearly during the 1990s) meaning that a 10x increase for any painting or art object would be tantamount to 2.86x. Paintings: Beert Osias (Flemish) (1550?-1623): “Still life, basket of flowers”, oil on panel, 63 x 96 cm: 363 500 FF, 1969, Paris. Today's estimate: Between $ 900,000 and 1,200,000 (23.7x) Benson Ambrosius (Flemish) (1495-1550): “The Dance”, oil on panel 130 x 106 cm: 71 000 FF, 1969, Paris. Today's estimate: Between $ 400,000 and 500,000 (50.7x)
