DRAWING GIVEN BACK BY THE LOUVRE MUSEUM

The Louvre Museum has given back to the heirs of Jewish collector Alphonse Kann a drawing by French 19th century artist François Marius Granet which was stolen by the Nazis during world War Two.

The drawing, depicting the death of 17th Century French artist Nicolas Poussin executed by Granet in 1833.

The drawing was kept in custody by the French Museum pending a claim by the heirs of Alphonse Kann who have already recovered an important 1911 painting by Albert Gleizes from the Georges Pompidou Museum and who are also demanding the return of a major 1914 painting by Georges Braque, «The Guitar Player» in the possession of this museum.

The heirs of Alphonse Kann said some 50 works from his collection which was pillaged during the war are still unaccounted for.
