MADRAZO Y KUNTZ DON FREDERIGO DE

1815-1894)
Nationality: Spanish

Average rate: Between $ 15,000 and 30,000

Son of José Madrazo, Frederigo studied painting in Paris with Winterhalter and founded in Madrid an art newspaper.

He was much successful as a portrait painter in Spain and took part in many Parisian Salons where he was awarded several prizes between 1838 and 1878.

Madrazo was appointed painter to the Spanish court and headed the National Museum in Madrid as well as the School of Painting in that city. He notably painted the portraits of the most influential Spanish people of his time in a style reminiscent to that of Ingres.
