MADERNO or MADERNA STEFANO

MADERNO or MADERNA STEFANO
(1576?-1636)
Nationality: Italian
Activity: Sculptor
Average rate: Between $ 10,000 and 70,000

Maderno was listed in the San Luca Academy in Rome from 1607 after specialising in the reproduction of classical statues, such as the group of Hercules and Antaeus, the statue of Saint Cecilia, which he executed for the Saint Cecilia in Trastevere Church in 1599, being the most important.

He represented the female saint with fluid outstretched forms covered by a drapery showing the shape of her figure. Most curiously, Maderno ceased his activity from the moment he found a job at the Tax Office in Rome.

Maderno produced several statues for numerous churches in Rome, notably in Santa Maria del Pace, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Lorenzo or Santa Maria sopra Minerva as well as the Quirinal palace.
