Olej studied under Lovis Corinth in Berlin and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. A member of the “Start” group, he painted landscapes and portraits. Olej settled in the U.S at the end of World War Two.

Olere or Oler, David called Olere Naissance - mort : 1902-1985 Nationalité : Polish
Oler studied painting in Warsaw until 1918 and went to Berlin, where he was hired in 1921 as a decorator by the Europaische Film Allianz firm. He notably worked with Ernst Lubitsch before settling in 1923 in Paris, where he worked for several film companies. At the outbreak of World War Two he was drafted into the French Army and returned to civilian life after France's defeat. Arrested in February 1943, he was detained in Drancy and then deported to Auschwitz. In January 1945 he was among thousands of inmates who were forced to walk non-stop by retreating Nazi troops. Oler was successively transferred to the camps of Mathausen, Melck and Ebensee before U.S troops freed him. After the war he published 50 drawings depicting the horrors of Nazi camps, which are now in the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York.

Olitski studied painting at the National Academy of Design in New York between 1939 and 1942 and sculpture with Zadkine in 1949 in Paris before frequenting the Academy of La Grande Chaumiere until 1952. While in Paris he evolved towards geometrical abstraction under the influence of Malevich and Mondrian and exhibited his works at the “Huit” gallery. Back in New York, he showed his paintings at the Iolas and Zodiac galleries and abroad, notably in London, Madrid and Paris. Considered as a major figure of post-pictorial abstraction as well of Minimal painting in the U.S Olitski produced “stain paintings” between 1958 and 1965 and then “Spray paintings” until 1970. Around 2000, Olitski painted abstract works relating to the Bible like “Dream of Isaac” or “Dream of Abraham. He exhibited his works in 1967 at the Jewish Museum in New York. "
Olomucki, (-a) Halina Naissance - mort : 20th Century Nationalité : Polish then Israeli
Olomucki studied art in Warsaw, where she lived through the miseries of the ghetto. For a time she worked with a detachment of workers outside the walls of the ghetto and thus managed to smuggle some drawings to friends living on the Aryan side. She was then deported to Majdanek, where she escaped death several times. In the final selection she was in a group that was to be gassed but the Nazis mistakenly sent a “Labour” group to the gas chamber and she survived. She was then deported to Auschwitz, where she completed some 200 drawings. After the liberation, she returned to Warsaw and studied art in Lodz. Olomucki settled in France in 1957 and went in 1972 to live in Israel. Her work was haunted by her wartime experiences in Poland.

Oppenheim, Dennis Naissance - mort : 1938- Nationalité : American
Based in New York in 1967, Oppenheim worked as a painter and sculptor. Specialized in conceptual, minimal and body art, he took part in many exhibitions in the U.S, in Europe, in Israel and in Japan. Until 1967 he produced Minimal works and then became an exponent of Land' art using large areas to create artistic installations. He also went on to create installations animated with puppets and objects or strange factories with geometric elements. At the end of the 1980,s Oppenheim produced his “Virus” series composed with baroque assemblages in steel, wood, stone or rubber, which exhaled his inclination to tackle all possible experimentations.

Oppenheim, Meret Naissance - mort : 1913-1985 Nationalité : German
Born in Berlin, Meret Oppenheim came in 1932 to Paris, where she studied painting at the famous Grande Chaumiere Academy. She befriended Jan Arp and Alberto Giacometti and became one of Man Ray's models. Quite provocative, she led a somewhat dissipated life in Paris but managed to take part in many exhibitions there and also in New York, where she caused some sensation during the Fantastic Art, Dada and Surrealism Show and in Copenhagen before World War Two. After seeking refuge in Switzerland during the war, meret Oppenheim came back to the French capital and exhibited her works several times until her death. Her fur dinner set shown in 1936 in New York, with cup, saucer and spoon covered with fur became a symbol of Surrealism and was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art. After 1937, Meret OppenHeim had several nervous breakdowns that affected her activity during at least 17 years. During the 1959 International Surrealist Exhibition, she again made sensation with “The Feast”, a dinner served by a naked woman wearing a gold mask.

Oppenheim studied painting at the Stadelische Institute in Frankfurt. He pursued his studies in Munich in 1818 and in Paris. He stayed four years in Rome between 1821 and 1825 and returned to Frankfurt where he became a prominent artist. He exhibited his works in Berlin from 1826 and notably produced many superb Judaic scenes.
