Halicka, Alicja

Halicka studied painting under J. Pankiewicz in Cracow. She then went to Munich and settled in 1912 in Paris, where she attended the Academie Ranson and met Louis Marcoussis whom she married the following year. She worked as a Cubist painter until 1921, the year she came back to Poland, and turned to figurative painting producing post-Impressionist oils. She notably depicted the Jewish area in Cracow and illustrated Zangwill's book “Children of the Ghetto”. Halicka notably exhibited her works at the Georges Petit gallery in 1931 and visited New York three times between 1935 and 1937. She sought refuge in central France during World War Two, while her husband died near Vichy in 1941. Back in Paris in 1945, she resumed work and exhibited her paintings in several countries.

Halle studied art in Frankfurt between 1839 and 1842 before completing his studies under Wappers in Antwerp. Specializing in genre painting, he went to England and exhibited his works in London until the early 1870's. Halle then settled in Paris and became a French citizen.

Stacha Halpern studied painting in Lwow and in Melbourne before living in Paris between 1961 and 1966. He exhibited his works in the French capital as well as in Amsterdam, Basel, Lausanne, Milan and Rome. Stacha Halpern worked as an abstract painter until 1963 and then produced figurative works.
