The prudish queen, who became a widow at 42, was believed to have been deeply fond of John Brown. But was their relationship merely platonic?
In fact the servant was the only ever-known man who had taken the liberty of usually entering her room without knocking at her door.

Such story is not new, as many historians have been investigating into this so-called affair. In July 1995 two university lecturers went as far as pretending that the queen had given birth to an illegitimate child.

The queen who was prudish to the extent that she had the feet of her pianos covered because these had some erotic meaning in her mind. So was it possible that she had an affair with such bulky and bearded kilt-wearing male?

One must however recall that she had previously been madly in love with Prince Albert, her husband, who more than once complained publicly about her sexual appetite.

Regarding her relationship with John Brown the producer of a TV film titled “Mrs Brown”, the first part of which was broadcast by the BBC on December 27th 1998, was contacted a few months ago by a Canadian woman who claimed she was one of Brown's descendants. She told him that the sister of the queen's servant who was living near the royal castle of Balmoral in Scotland had kept hidden in a trunk scores of letters between him and Victoria as well as photographs.

A postcard sent by the Queen to Brown on Saint Valentine's day was among these letters which tend to reveal a very close relationship between them. However, these letters have not been published so far in order to protect the royal family. Queen Elisabeth has been especially quite supercilious regarding any publication on Victoria's life.

Still Queen Victoria's personal diary, written in 1884 and published in the 1930's, lifted some ambiguities on her relationship with a man who usually slept in a room next to hers and enjoyed some incredible prerogatives, which annoyed members of the Court.
