MICHALLON  ACHILLE  ETNA

(1796-1822)
Nationality: French
Activity: Painter
Average price : Between $ 12,000 and 25,000

Michallon studied painting under Dunouy, Bertin, Valenciennes and Jacques-Louis David and drew attention at only 15. He then gained the patronage of Russian prince Issupov and exhibited at 16 several landscapes at the Paris Salon in 1812. Five years later he was awarded the Historical Landscape Grand Prize and was considered as a promising painter after working for a spell in Rome but his career ended brutally when he died at 26.

Michallon was Corot's first master and the latter owed him much regarding his 1825-1835 production.
