FRITZ THAULOW: SOME IMPRESSIONIST CHARM

Fritz Thaulow,
"Soleil printanier au Norvège"

Fritz Thaulow, born in Norway in 1847, studied painting in Copenhagen with Sorensen and then went to Karlsruhe where he studied under Hans Gude.
Thaulow then left for France and settled for a time in Dieppe and exhibited his works from 1885 in Paris.

In 1892, he started to paint French scenes, notably canals, rivers, lakes or small villages at night or under snow.

Working in an Impressionist manner, adding a realistic touch to his paintings and much influenced by Claude Monet, Thaulow took a keen interest in representing waters, notably river scenes.

The museums of Bergen, Berlin, Bordeaux, Brussels, Buffalo, Chicago, Copenhagen, Munich, Hamburg, Philadelphia, Stockholm, Oslo, Saint Louis, San Francisco, Stuttgart, Venice, Worcester and Paris (Petit Palais) acquired several of his works.
