BOCCIONI: A MASTER OF FUTURISM

Date naissance/Mort : 1862-1916
Nationalité : Italian
Umberto Boccioni Umberto (1862-1916) was a pioneer of Futurist painting in Italy and had considerable influence over many artists.

Boccioni studied art in Rome at 16 and later met Severini with whom he discovered divisionism with Balla as their master.

He went briefly to Paris in 1902 and to Russia in 1904 and launched the Futurism movement with Marinetti in 1909. Much influenced by Cubism after another trip to Paris in 1911 Boccioni took part in a major exhibition there and took the opportunity of befriending Brancusi, Archipenko and Duchamp-Villon.

He enlisted in the Italian army during the First World War and died after falling from a horse on August 16th 1916. His works are now worth between US $ 150,000 and 375,000.
