Another offensive against Van Gogh's Sunflowers has been taking place in Britain through a television documentary and an article in the Sunday Times by Art specialist Geraldine Norman.
The painting, bought by the Yasuda insurance company of Japan for £ 24,7 million during a sale by Christie's on March 30th 1987, is a fake, according to Geraldine Norman who based her investigation on the claims made by two independent researchers, Frenchman Benoit Landais and Italian Antonio de Robertis. This seventh version of Van Gogh's Sunflowers was produced by a French painter, Emile Schuffenecker, shortly after the master's death, Geraldine Norman said in a television documentary on Channel 4 on October 26th and then in an article published in the Sunday Times.
She referred to Van Gogh's letters to his brother Theo in which no mention of this version could be found. However, those specialists who believe that the Yasuda painting is genuine said that it would be ridiculous to think that the painter listed his entire production in the letters he sent to his brother.
