There was no exhibition which attracted over one million visitors last year in the world, according to figures released at the end of January 1998. The Documenta in Kassel which took place between June 21st and September 28th 1997 registered 630,000 visitors ahead of the exhibition on Georges de la Tour at the Grand Palais in Paris between October 3rd 1997 and January 28th 1998 which culminated at 534 610 visitors and the one on Picasso's first years held at the National Gallery of Washington between March 30th and July 27th which totaled 530,900 visitors.
