The Tajan and PIASA groups dominated the Paris auction scene during the 1998 year. Tajan recorded a global turnover of 437 million FF (US $ 78,035 million) while PIASA placed second with 353 million (US $ 63,035 million) thanks to the Dora Maar succession sales and the sale of a Delacroix painting, Arab horsemen fighting, which reached 51,5 million FF (US $ 9,196 million), a world record for the 19th Century French painter.
