A bronze standard lamp with birds by French Art Deco designer Armand Rateau went for 4,2 million FF (almost US $ 700,000) in Paris sale organised by the Tajan auction group in . This bid was record price for Rateau and topped the 3,6 million FF (almost US $ 600,000) recorded for a gilt-wood commode sold by the Tajan group in December 1994. Such bronze lamp only fetched £ 144,500 ( US $ 235,000) at Christie's on May 12th 1999. Meanwhile a leather-covered mahogany writing desk by Dupré-Lafon sold for 1,4 million FF (US $ 227,600) while its accompanying chair went for 155,000 FF (US $ 25,750). Such set had been sold for 400,000 FF (US $ 65,000) by a Paris dealer to a private collector six years ago.
