The Tefaf Maastricht Fair opened its doors on March 13th 1999 for a week-long event likely to attract over 65 000 visitors. Some 182 dealers representing 12 countries have been taking part in this fair, which is now considered as the best in Europe. The Annely Juda Gallery of London has exhibited a 1927 composition by Piet Mondrian, Cazeau- de La Béraudière from Paris has shown a 1900 still life by Cézanne and a 1865 portrait of a lady by Gustave Courbet, Johnny van Haeften has presented a painting by Frans van Mieris the Elder representing an alchemist in his studio, Richard Green has produced a Clara Peeters still life and Bob Haboldt one of the first known landscape painted by Salomon van Ruysdael.
Many gothic and Renaisance pieces as well as 18th century furniture have been shown at Maastricht which has also attracted dealers specialised in 16th and 17th century Flemish and French tapestries.
