Fashion photographer Horst A. Paul Bohrmann died in Palm Beach, Florida, at 93, it was announced on November 23rd 1999. Born near Weimar on August 14th 1906 he became an American citizen in 1943 and worked under the name of Horst P. Horst. He had previously lived in 1930 in Paris where he had met Josephine Baker, Julien Green and Le Corbusier.
He then befriended Hoyningen Huene, a photographer working for Vogue, and Cecil Beaton. Working for Vogue in Paris from 1932, he then visited the U.S where he produced photographs with Bette Davis, Paulette Godard, Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford as models.
Other photographs of Erté, Dali, Luchino Visconti, Jacqueline Bouvier, teh future wife of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Andy Warhol also ensured his celebrity. Horst worked until the end of the 1980's, notably for Calvin Klein, Yves Saint-Laurent, Givenchy, Chanel or Verdura.
Many of his beautiful and fascinating shots were exhibited and bought by collectors from around the world after Horst started his career.
