A painting by 18th Century Italian artist Giambattista Tiepolo, «Renaud saying farewell to Armide», has been surrendered in by the Pinacotheque Museum of Berlin to the family of Jewish collector Frederic Gentili di Giuseppe in Paris. The painting had been seized and sold at Drouot in 1941 after this collector and his family fled Paris when German troops occupied France. It had been acquired by the Cailleux gallery and sold in 1979 to the German museum.
A French court ruled that the 1941 auction sale was the result of a wartime spoliation and ordered the museum to surrender this work to the heirs of the collector.
