An unsigned German Expressionist still life painting was sold for the stunning price of 2,1 million FF (Not inclusive of buyer cost) (US $ 368,420) in a modest sale without catalogue in Drouot on February 17th 1999. The painting was offered for sale by the Rabourdin –Choppin de Janvry auctioning group which almost made a blunder a few years ago with a Georges De La Tour painting carrying an estimate of 8000 FF which was withdrawn just before a small sale and later sold by Sotheby's for 10 million FF (US $ 1,754,000) in Monaco.
This time, bidding started at 10 000 FF (US $ 1754) for a still life believing to be by German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938). It went to an undisclosed American buyer.
