STUNNING PRICE FOR UNSIGNED EXPRESSIONIST WORK
01 March 1999

An unsigned German Expressionist still life painting was sold for the stunning price of 2,1 million FF (Not inclusive of buyer cost) (US $ 368,420) in a modest sale without catalogue in Drouot on February 17th 1999.

The painting was offered for sale by the Rabourdin –Choppin de Janvry auctioning group which almost made a blunder a few years ago with a Georges De La Tour painting carrying an estimate of 8000 FF which was withdrawn just before a small sale and later sold by Sotheby's for 10 million FF (US $ 1,754,000) in Monaco.

This time, bidding started at 10 000 FF (US $ 1754) for a still life believing to be by German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938). It went to an undisclosed American buyer.
