POULAIN-LE FUR GROUP ON ITS OWN
01 October 1999

As it was disclosed last August, the Parisian group of auctioneers Poulain- Le Fur will hold sales for Sotheby's in Paris in their new salesrooms, at the Palais des Congrès, near the plush area of l'Etoile.

Hervé Poulain and Rémy Le Fur said they had had enough waiting for a reform of their profession, which should have been adopted by the French parliament last year, and that they had decided to open their own salesrooms despite the opposition of their Parisian counterparts.

Hervé Poulain stressed that the Paris Chamber of auctioneers had been paralysed for too long and that they it had no common valid project in stock.

Accused of having sealed an agreement with Sotheby's, considered with Christie's here as «enemies», Hervé Poulain has been invested by the US owned auction firm to sell collectible cars on its behalf. Their first joint sale will thus take place on December 13th 1999.

Poulain and Le Fur are much pleased with their modernistic salesrooms designed by Christian de Portzamparc with the assistance of his wife Elisabeth and indicated that their inaugural sale with a selection of fine paintings and 18th Century objects of art and furniture would take place on December 9th followed by a sale of Modern paintings and Art Deco furniture on December 12th.
