The Louvre museum in Paris opened on December 15th 1999 seven rooms devoted to the 1815 and 1830-48 periods. Museum officials said they were in need of good pieces produced during these periods. Meanwhile another room devoted to researchers interested in graphic arts will also be opened in January 2000. In addition the museum of Primitive Arts will be opened along the quai Branly near the Eiffel Tower next April.
The Louvre also plans to inaugurate three new exhibition rooms devoted to Northern old masters at the end of the year 2000 while some extra space will be allocated to the department of Mediterranean antiquities in 2002.
Several companies have also sponsored renovation works in the exhibition room were Leonardo's Joconda and Veronese's Cana's Wedding hang while a private group has donated US $ 4 million for the renovation of the Apollo Gallery.
Museum officials said they were still looking for a suitable place regarding British paintings, which have been kept in the reserve rooms of the Louvre so far.
