The 2000 edition of the French International Fair of Contemporary Art (FIAC) promises to be exceptional with galeries exhibiting one single artist, a new concept aimed at inducing a better understanding of their activities and their commitments to artists, a spokesman for the Fiac said on December 15th 1999. The next Fiac will take place from October 24 to 30 2000 so as to avoid problems encountered with the 1999 edition coinciding with Yom Kippur, a fact that prevented many American visitors from coming to Paris.
Meanwhile Art Basel, which met considerable success in 1999, will take place from June 21 to 26 2000 with a new section devoted to photography, another to publishing and a thrid to one-man shows for young artists entitled "Statements".
Arco will greet 250 galleries, including 96 Spanish, between February 10 and 15 2000 with Italy chosen as guest of honour.
The 20th Paris Biennale des Antiquaires will take place between September 15 and October 1st 2000 at the Carrousel du Louvre. Some 120 antique dealers will present 7,000 works of art. Organisers said there will more modern pieces on show next year.
The Tefaf antique fair of Maastricht will start on March 18th and last until March 26th 2000 with 195 antique dealers from 13 countries and the International Fine Art and Antique dealers show, will take place in New York from October 20th until October 26th 2000.
Nine renown Parisian antique dealers and gallery owners will participate in the International Art & Antique Fair in Palm Beach between February 3rd and 13th 2000 while 80 dealers will exhibit their best pieces in Paris at the "Pavillon des Antiquaires" in the Eiffel-Branly compound from February 25th until March 5th 2000.
Daniel Gervis, who founded the now defunct Salon de Mars in Paris will open a new Salon on March 31st 2000 in Geneva.
Other great events of the year 2000 are the October 14 to 22 Cultura Fair in Switzerland , the Belgian antique fair from January 28th until February 6th, the Seventh Regiment Armory show in New York from March 24th until 29th, the 3rd September 14-17 Tribal art fair in Paris with 30 exhibitors, the Salon du Dessin, from March 28th until April 2nd and the International Fine Art Fair in New York between May 12th and 17th while the fourth edition of Paris Photo will take place between November 16th and 21st at the Carrousel du Louvre.
