A violin made by the famous Antonius Stradivarius fetched 5,6 million FF ( US $ 932,000) at auction on February 3rd 1998 in Paris.
The violin, dated 1714 was the star of the sale conducted by auctioneer Jacques Tajan. During the same sale a 1698 Stradivarius violin sold for 4,3 million FF (US $ 710,000). Both prices were exclusive of buyer's premium. The world record bid for a Stradivarius violin, recorded in London at Christie's in 1990, stands at 9 million FF (US 1,5 million).
