Two paintings by Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley were stolen from the Nice Beaux-Arts Museum on September 21st 1998.The theft occurred when two armed men took the curator of the museum as hostage in his home and forced him to get access to the museum at 7 a.m.They then gagged him with the keeper and fled with the two impressionist works. Police said the two men may have acted for a mad collector or in order to ask a ransom for the paintings.
